The Extreme Right?

The Conservative Parrty of Canada is wrapping up its Policy Convention on Winnipeg this weekend, and the Ottawa Citizen reports that "grassroots Conservatives approved resolutions that would push the party further to the right".

You have to wonder how the liberal press defines "the right".

These are the thorny resolutions:

" The rank-and-file urged the party to press ahead with its tough-on-crime agenda, and support some long-held causes of rock-ribbed conservatives, such as curbing the powers of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

In the most contested vote of the day, party delegates narrowly passed a resolution supporting legislation that would impose additional charges on individuals who commit violence against pregnant women."

So let me see, strengthening our lax liberal criminal justice system that allows thugs convicted for armed robbery  to go free so they can kill people, is "right wing".

Reducing the power of the CHRC to conduct witch hunts against those who dare criticize Islamofacists is right wing. Protecting our freedom of speech is "right wing". The CHRC has engaged itself lately in prosecuting all manner of people for daring to criticize anything near and dear to the liberal heart, and calling it "hate crime". The best known of these "trials" are those of the Western Standard's Ezra Levant, and Mark Steyn and Macleans magazine, for having the cheek to point out some of the more obvious facts about extreme Islamism. The CHRC has become a very dangerous entity, and yes, it needs its powers reduced.  Big time.

Protecting pregant women against violence is "right wing". Because God forbid! trying to attach some importance to the life of an unborn wanted baby might lead to restrictions on abortion!

You have to laugh how the press defines conservatives and liberals: "right wing agendas", "rock-ribbed " conservatives"  as opposed to "progressive" liberals.

Progressive? PROGRESSIVE??

Well, call me a rock-ribbed right wing conservative.

Indeed the CHRC needs it's wings clipped.  Or better still it needs to be abolished.  Now all the caucus needs to do is get Mr. Harper onboard as well as the PMO powers that be.

I get the idea that the liberals in Canada could indeed win if the PM does not stop his benign neglect of real human rights.   For me it boils down to this choice: A REAL country or not.

Canadians also should consider what it would be like to have their first American Prime Minister if the liberals should win.  :)

"a resolution supporting legislation that would impose additional charges on individuals who commit violence against pregnant women."

So those preforming abortions will be charged?

I'm just sayin'

Cat:  When did conservatives become the defenders of Free Speech?
Funny, but I don't recall conservatives rushing to defend the rights of those who had the audacity to disagree with Bush's wayward policies. For example, a West Virginia couple was arrested on July 4, 2004. Their crime? They wore t-shirts with the international “no” symbol superimposed over the word “Bush.” Oh, and let's not forget about our current administration's notorious use of “free speech” zones. Where was the conservative outcry when their beloved president was trampling on our 1st Amendment rights?
Furthermore, we already have state and federal laws that criminalize violence against women (regardless of whether or not they're pregnant). Legislators in Madison, WI (one of the most liberal cities in the nation), authored a myriad of laws to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assaults.  Only a fool would attest that the Wisconsin Criminal Statutes are lenient on those who victimize women. (Madison's Domestic Abuse Laws)
Lastly, the following bills were recently introduced on The Hill.
H.R. 3192: The Pregnant Women Support Act, “provides for services to pregnant women who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking.”
S. 2407: The Pregnant Woman Support Act, “authorizes grants for services to pregnant women who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking. Requires states to require a pregnancy determination for homicide victims.”
Coincidentally, they were both sponsored by Democrats.

They're trying to lower conservative standards by repeating the same mantra over and over. Worked here in the US!

Lowkey: not talking about America here. Your Republicans have become watered down versions of liberals. Made that mistake already here in Canada with the former "Progressive Conservative" party, which imploded into oblivion about 8 years ago with 2 seats in Parliament, until Stephen Harper "united the right", by merging the old PC's and the Alliance Party. True conservatives aren't about Big Government, Nanny States, and "progressing" towards socialism.

the abortion issue is much touchier in the States than it is here, liberal wonderland that we have become. Anything that even smacks of giving a fetus any rights at all is persecuted into oblivion by the liberal press and the  leftist asshats who live in 416 (Toronto).  There is no opinion allowed to be discussed except the liberal opinion, you see. Zero tolerance for any differing viewpoints, so smart and wise they are.

In Canada, we also of course, have rights protecting women, pregnant or not. The thorny question remains: do we invest  legal "rights" to a *wanted* unborn baby, introducing legislation that charges someone who kills a pregnant woman, with not one, but two homicides? While investing zero rights to a fetus that a woman does not *want*. This is the condundrum, amongst many others, that "progressive liberalism" has created. An existential question as it were: is a fetus defined objectively and in reality as a potential human being, only by the opinion of the woman who carries it?
